The "Empowerment" Short Film Documentary gives you a glimpse of the impact Donda's House Inc. is having on 14-24 year olds in Chicago. The late Dr. Donda West would've been celebrating her 65th birthday on July 12, 2014 and we are honoring her memory by releasing this short film.
As we celebrate America's 238th birthday, we would like to honor the brave men and women who sacrifice their lives everyday. The "4th of July" by Rhymefest sound movie features two Donda's House Inc. students, Noel Malpica and Kendall "Mos Hii" Williams. "4th of July" was produced by T.L. Williams and features Chicago Vocalist Russoul.
As the illuminated stage dimmed into a spotlight focus onto Donda's House engineer and Columbia College graduate Marcus Norris, he began graciously by welcoming Dion 'No I.D.' Wilson back to his home town. Greeted with a roar of applause, No I.D. expressed his appreciation for an organization such as Donda's House, making clear his excitement to be apart of a movement the power couple Donnie & Che 'Rhymefest' Smith have set in full force motion. A movement that utilizes and reinforces music as a positive outlet for Chicago's youth. Those who were fortunate enough to attend the 'Behind The Label' event were able to consume industry knowledge that otherwise could be considered unattainable... CLICK READ MORE
As I explained via my facebook post about the delay in production, I had a minor set back in my personal life but we're back on the ball and ready to roll! Ivan and I began by brainstorming the shows intro and as Ivan suggested, we should feature a little bit of the past and present. If you're watching this and wondering where those images come from, it's exactly what it looks like, a bit of then and now. Photos of when I first began in this industry as a promoter, clips of my family and close friends and of course some footage of my most recent stuff. We're still in the editing process and Ivan is beasting as usual, this will be released soon so stay tuned! -@hexhectic
Alot of people don't know this but I actually got my first break as a co-coordinator and promoter of a weekly dance party themed after the popularized Chicago Juke music genre, 'i-Juke Fridays' alongside DJ Prodigy, DJ Chi-C & 'The King of Juke' himself, DJ Chip. We ran the weekly series for about 6 months before I decided to take my new experience into a different genre. I definitely have to touch base and enter a blog entry taking ya'll back in time with photos and MAYBE some footage of my hay days as a young promoter lol but until then, it was a must that I contributed in a new way, designing this 'One Night Stand' flyer for the one time return of 'i-Juke Fridays' exclusively at Volkan nightclub. If you'd like to attend, all the information is on the flyer above! -@hexhectic
Sitting still for a second, I came to a swift realization that women have been the core foundation for the brand I've been working so hard to build. I think it's about time they get their own shine! Don't you? Get ready to see more of #HexGrls this summer! We're developing a way to keep content flowing in the interest of not just our general audience but more specifically our strongest supporters, our #HexGrls. This is me recognizing women as the strongest members of #TeamHex. Without your unconditional support, I wouldn't be making the moves I'm able to make. So without further ado, here's a special first-look at the new logo & hangtags designed for the brand. For those of you already rocking with me than you know I'm all about having a positive and confident lifestyle, but if you're ready to take it to the next level and carry that "I'm already famous" attitude, consider yourself apart of the #HexGrls move, this is for ya'll -@hexhectic
If you've been to any shopping center with a CD stand in, or surrounding the Chicagoland area, you've probably heard a DJ SLUGO / BLOK CLUB DJS audio tag. Whether it be between a hot juke or footwork beat, or in the middle of an exclusive song leak, it would only come from a Blok Club DJ's release as DJ Slugo & his team work rigorously on building & breaking through new talent in Chicago's underground music scene. .. It's not often or likely you meet a teenager who carries himself like a mature adult, let alone one who is wise & sustains a strong sense of self-discipline. To my surprise, it would be attributed to his meditation practices. Clearing his mind and focusing on the goals he has set out for himself, Supah, need I remind you, has yet to welcome his twenties. A lot of artists & entrepreneurs struggle from anxiety, not being able to focus on one task at a time, eventually becoming overloaded with work and imbalanced expectations.. CLICK READ MORE
Some people get to grow up and become Power Rangers...
The year is 1995, the weather in Chicago was just the way I enjoy it, between 70-79 degrees with a cool breeze. There I was, rockin' some 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' triangle & circle neon colored elastic banded shorts with a baby blue strap back hat & a yellow brim. Bugs Bunny & Daffy on my tank top, yeah, as cool as a cucumber. Except for one thing, my Mom taking her sweet a&% time at the mini-mart, making conversation over seasoning salt and limes! WHO THE HELL SPENDS THIRTY SOME' MINUTES BUYING SEASONING SALT & LIMES!? Didn't she know that the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Green with Evil episode was about to be broadcasted in 20 minutes?! When a Grammy Award winner calls your phone, you answer it...
Last Thursday, right before our weekly creative writing class is about to begin, my Galaxy android phone lights up and the screen reads, "Rhymefest - Incoming Call," I slid my index finger to the right as fast as humanly possible, because let's face it, when a Grammy Award winner calls your phone, YOU ANSWER IT! "I need you to make a run for me, I'm going to send you the address to pick up our guest, GLC." Ladies & gentlemen, real quick, you know how in the movies when a person asks someone else a question but before they answer, they show a clip of what that person is thinking of, like a recollection? This is where my mind went... CLICK READ MORE
This morning director Zack Snyder tweeted out the FIRST glimpse of Affleck in the new batsuit currently filming in Eminem's hometown of Detroit. TBH, I think it's about time we see something new & refreshing come to the big screen. If you notice the Batman symbol on the suit it's much larger than what we're used to seeing, the color of the suit itself is more grey than black & also the pointy bat ears have been significantly taken down. Keep in mind, this version of Batman/Bruce Wayne is supposed to be older & rugged so don't expect a clean shave!
The upcoming Man of Steel (Batman Versus Superman) sequel is looking at a May 6, 2016 release date, and also stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Superman's most popular bad guy Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Batman's butler Alfred Pennyworth and Ray Fisher as high-tech hero Cyborg which pretty much sets the stage for the first official Justice League movie.
I've seen leaders of gangs like the GD's & BD's work closer together for the community...
Chicago's Sanford Brown College welcomed students and adults to join The Chicago Community Trust's #OnTheTable2014 discussion regarding Chicago's future, hosted by Donda's House executive director Donnie Smith, over a generously sponsored dinner & dessert. At my table, we openly discussed ideas & opinions such as how we could make Chicago the #1 city in the United States, what we did and didn't like about our neighborhoods, the list goes on. The Creative Adult, is the Child who survived ― Ursula K. Le Guin
That quote snapped me out of a state of mind I think we all fall into whether we set out to or not. When we were kids we didn't want to make money to pay bills, we thought if we made a sh** load of money we'd be able to do what? BUY BIGGER TOYS AND TAKE OUR FUN & IMAGINATIONS TO THE NEXT LEVEL. Or was it just me? CLICK READ MORE
If any of you watched The Amazing Spider-Man 2 over this passed weekend, you've probably already seen this! If you haven't, here's an easter-egg end credit scene from the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past movie coming out May 23rd, 2014. THIS DOES NOT MEAN A SPIDERMAN x AVENGERS x X-MEN crossover film is coming anytime soon, it's just a cross promotion deal as Spiderman and X-men movies are not property of Marvel Studios, but Sony's (Columbia Pictures) and 20th Century Fox. I know, I know.. WOMP WOMP. Anyways, enjoy! -@hexhectic

This man and his team have been to over a hundred festivals within the past 12 months.. heavy introduction for the one and only Killer Mike! From the jump.. he made it perfectly clear if you're in this business for any other reason than loving it, STOP RIGHT NOW. No cut corners or sugar coated notions Killer Mike continued to fill us in on his life experiences like working with colleagues Big Boi and Dre.. about his collabs with TI, Drake, etc. closing with the point that YOU should BE YOU...
